Recently Larry and I had a little staycation. We decided it was our turn to act like tourists in our city beautiful, Orlando.
Last weekend we had a little getaway to the Wyndham Orlando Resort on International Drive. Now, if you're not familiar with idrive, this is the area that most people visiting come to. Whether it's for their hotel stay or food options, there's so many tourist offerings all along this strip. It always seems like things are changing and getting revamped in this part of town. Gotta keep it fresh for the visitors. Our resort was located near one of the newest hot spots on idrive, Icon Park! It was seriously in walking distance to this and so many other attractions.
I'm not kidding when I say this is one of Orlando's newest and biggest areas to hit up while on vacation. The biggest attraction you may have seen is The Wheel. A 400' tall ferris wheel! Crazy right. Neither Larry or I had ever done it until this trip, and oh my goodness it was so cool. We were shootin to hit sunset, but we missed it by like 20 minutes lol. Even though it was night we could still see a decent amount of things... and the lights! OMG they were beautiful! The Wheel it's self moves super slow, so you can't even feel yourself going around, you just see yourself getting higher and it takes about 20 mins to complete.
Besides The Wheel they have a ton of other offerings too. Lots of restaurants and a few bars for that nightlife scene. There's also a couple souvenir shops and another large attraction... the StarFlyer. This one we did not have the courage of doing. It's a 400' tall swing. Umm, no thank you lol.
We did hit up a few of the restaurants though such as: Uncle Julios, Tin Roof, Yard House, and Shake Shack. Guys, everything was delicious. Uncle Julios was dinner the first night. We had a few margaritas and mexican to kick off our staycation. It's a little on the pricier side, but very good. They don't mess around with a mean margarita! The next morning we did a little Sunday brunchin' at Yard House, and holy smokes this was delicious!!! I got bread pudding french toast with berries and bacon. It had a side of maple cream sauce that was amazing. I ate the hole thing lol Larry was very impressed. Also, we got bottomless mimosas and the passion fruit, oh my soooo good. And if your'e looking for a good easy burger and a good price, Shake Shack is where it's at! Nice and charded up on the outside, but so juicy on the inside, yum!
We had a fun time exploring other places along idrive too, like Ripley's Believe It Or Not and Mango's. This was all things that we hadn't done yet just with living here we never really think to go do stuff like this, but we had a really good time.
I never knew that the Wyndham Orlando International Drive was so large. It's been there for years, but I had never needed to book a stay there, so I'm grateful that this staycation came up for us to check it out. At the time of checkin it was a little crazy. They were hosting not only one, but three conventions. Crazy right. It just made it a little difficult finding where the lobby was and also parking was hard that first night. We had a premium king room, and it was pretty spacious. Very basic and simple, but that sometimes make the room feel nicer because it's more open. Our room had a sliding door out to a little patio that led to the courtyard. The little walking paths between buildings was pretty dressed with tropical plants and trees. The resort has two pools, and the one is quite large. There's also a hot tub, but in 90 degree weather who is sitting in that. They also have a nice little restaurant pool bar. Gatorville had offerings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You're prolly thinking who want's to workout on vacation, but for me that's a biggy and the gym facility was so nice. Lots of machines so no one would have to feel like it's too crowded and skip their workout.
The resort over all was nice and quite convenient for guests staying in the area to explore the Orlando attractions. I will say that it is on the older side, but when visiting Orlando how much are you really in the room anyways ya know. The Wyndham is located smack dab in the middle of both major theme parks, Universal Studios and Walt Disney World. Also, Sea World is near and everything along idrive is seriously within walking distance. If you're looking for a place that fits this then the Wyndham Orlando International Drive is a great hotel stay for you.
